As autumn settles across Exmoor, the nights lengthen and the skies come alive.

From 16 October to 1 November 2026, Exmoor’s Dark Skies Season offers one of the finest opportunities in the UK to experience truly dark, star-filled skies. Recognised as Europe’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, Exmoor is famed for its minimal light pollution and expansive horizons.

Between 10pm and 4am, when the air is still and the countryside quiet, constellations stretch from horizon to horizon. The Milky Way can often be seen with the naked eye. Planets, meteor showers and distant star clusters reveal themselves to patient observers.

Visitors are encouraged to explore safely and responsibly from designated viewing areas across the moor. Information, guidance and seasonal highlights are available through Exmoor National Park Centres in Dunster and Dulverton.
