The 60-Second Version
The Atlantic Highway is the South West at its most cinematic.
You move between huge sea views, twisting cliff roads, ancient villages, surf towns, wooded valleys, and remote Atlantic headlands. One moment you're above crashing surf, the next you're parked beside a sleepy harbour eating fish and chips while gulls scream overhead.
The beauty of the route is that it never feels finished. There is always another cove, another lay-by, another church on a cliff edge, another lane disappearing into the horizon.
This is not a route to rush.
Why This Route Matters
The Atlantic Highway is more than a road. It's one of the few routes in England where landscape, weather, history, sea, and atmosphere constantly collide.
And unlike many famous touring roads around the world, this one still feels human.
- ·You can still find quiet harbours.
- ·You can still stop and hear nothing but wind and gulls.
- ·You can still discover places that don't feel manufactured.
That's becoming rare.
