About This Location

Practical base for Exmoor coastal exploration

Bottom Meadow Car Park is one of the more practical larger parking areas serving Lynton and Lynmouth, particularly for touring visitors travelling the North Devon and Exmoor coastline. The absence of a height barrier and the presence of dedicated motorhome spaces make it useful for visitors who may struggle with tighter coastal parking elsewhere in the area.

Its location gives relatively straightforward access into the twin towns while also acting as a useful staging point for scenic coastal exploration across Exmoor's western edge.

Bottom Meadow is a council-operated public car park rather than a campsite, so facilities are limited compared with formal holiday parks. Availability for motorhome bays may vary during busy holiday periods, especially in summer and school holidays.

Road Access Notes

Approach & Navigation

Lynton sits on the cliff-top above Lynmouth and is approached via steep, narrow roads from the A39. Motorhome drivers should plan their approach carefully — the B3234 from Lynbridge and the approach from Barbrook are both manageable but involve gradients and bends. Bottom Meadow Car Park is located on Castle Hill in Lynton, accessible without passing through the most congested parts of the town centre.

Sat nav caution

Some routes into Lynton and Lynmouth are unsuitable for larger vehicles. Research your approach route before arrival and do not rely solely on sat nav. The A39 approach via Lynton is generally the most reliable for motorhomes.
