- 3Bear north toward Hound Tor — the cluster of weathered pinnacles is visible on the ridge.
- 4Explore Hound Tor and the nearby deserted medieval village.
- 5Return southwest across open moor to Haytor.
Terrain and difficulty
Firm moorland grass, rocky tramway sections and granite scrambling on the tors. Some wet ground between Haytor and Hound Tor after rain. Good boots recommended. Navigation is straightforward in clear conditions.
Best time to walk
Early morning in summer before the car park fills. Autumn for colour. Winter for solitude and low-angle light on the granite.

Safety & access
Dartmoor weather can change quickly — take a waterproof. Livestock graze freely; keep dogs under close control. Mist can descend fast; have a map.
