Route summary
- 1From Lynmouth harbour, take the coastal path west toward Hollerday Hill.
- 2Follow the cliff path to the Valley of Rocks — the dramatic dry valley with freestanding rock stacks.
- 3Return east along the top road to Lynton.
- 4Descend to Lynmouth via the water-powered cliff railway (pay) or the steep path.
- 5Walk the harbour front back to the start.
Terrain and difficulty
Steep coastal paths, some clifftop exposure and rocky sections in the Valley of Rocks. Significant total ascent. Not suitable for young children on all sections. Boots recommended.
Best time to walk
Spring and autumn for best light and manageable crowds. Summer evenings are beautiful on the cliff path.

Full range of cafés, restaurants and pubs in both Lynton and Lynmouth. Cliff railway connects the two villages.
Safety & access
Steep cliff paths require care in wet conditions. Valley of Rocks goats can be bold around food. Keep dogs under control. Clifftop sections are exposed in wind.
