Easy Walks

Easy Walks

Shorter routes on clear paths — the full collection of easy-grade walks across all three moors.

Easy doesn't mean uninteresting. The moors have a great range of shorter, well-marked routes that deliver genuine moorland character — open views, moorland streams, stone walls and wildlife — without demanding navigation skills or serious fitness.

This page collects all easy-graded walks across Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor in one place. Use it to browse the full range, or filter by area to find something near you.

Most of these walks are under 10km, follow reasonably clear paths, and are accessible to anyone with comfortable footwear and a basic level of fitness.

Who this page is for

  • Casual walkers who want to enjoy the landscape without a serious fitness commitment
  • Families, older walkers, or groups with mixed ability who need routes everyone can complete
  • People new to moorland walking who want to build familiarity and confidence
  • Short-break visitors who want a morning or afternoon walk as part of a broader day out

About this area

The most accessible easy walking is on the edges of all three moors — the tor paths on eastern Dartmoor, the coastal fringe of Exmoor near Lynton and Porlock, and the southern approaches to Bodmin around Golitha Falls. All three areas have good parking and well-maintained paths.

Safety on this terrain

Easy grades still require sensible footwear and a basic weather check. Even short moorland routes can be muddy, uneven or exposed in poor conditions. Carry a waterproof layer on any walk that includes open moorland.

When to go

Spring (Apr–May)

The best season for easy moorland walks. Ground is drying, flowers emerging, crowds manageable.

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Fine weather but the most popular routes are busy. Start early or choose less well-known options.

Autumn (Sep–Oct)

Excellent. Clear air, good ground underfoot, and the best colours of the year.

Winter (Nov–Mar)

Stick to lower valley routes with good path surfaces. Muddy conditions on moorland paths.
