Visit the stone circle remains and explore nearby granite outcrops before looping back. Optional detours can take in Hawks Tor summit or neighbouring prehistoric features.
Landscape & History
Unlike famous sites such as The Hurlers, Hawks Tor Stone Circle feels hidden and quiet. The surrounding moorland adds to the atmosphere, especially in changing weather.
Safety & Conditions
Weather
Exposed summit area with wind-chill risk. Weather can change rapidly. Rocks can be slippery when wet.
Navigation
Paths are mostly clear but moorland can be featureless. Carry map and compass in poor visibility.
Livestock & Wildlife
Livestock, ponies or sheep may be present on parts of the route. Keep dogs under close control and give animals plenty of room.
Footwear
Wear proper walking shoes or boots with grip. Trainers are only comfortable here in the driest and easiest conditions.
Variations
Can be trimmed in poor conditions, but the full route is the better option if visibility is decent and the ground is dry enough.
Access & Parking
Good boots essential. Take care in poor weather, as mist, exposed winds and wet ground can make navigation harder.
