Sharp Tor & Leather Tor Circuit
A brilliant tor-to-tor loop above Burrator with a ‘mini-ridge’ feel on Leather Tor and wide reservoir views almost the whole way.

About this walk
This circuit strings together two of the Burrator area’s best tors. Sharp Tor (Sharpitor) gives you immediate elevation above the reservoir; Leather Tor adds a rugged, broken ridge that feels far more dramatic than its height suggests. It’s a satisfying half-day with plenty of granite character and a constant sense of being on the edge of the moor.
The Experience
Tor-hopping with a ridge twist. Start at Norsworthy Bridge, climb to Sharpitor for big Burrator views, then follow moorland paths to Leather Tor’s ‘mini mountain’ ridge. Return via reservoir-side tracks. Moderate overall, with optional scrambly bits and slippery granite after rain.

Landscape & History
The Burrator area marks the point where worked landscape and open moor meet. Burrator Reservoir was built in the late nineteenth century to supply Plymouth with water, while the surrounding tors have long acted as landmarks for travellers, graziers and quarry workers moving across the south-western edge of Dartmoor.

Safety & Conditions
Weather
This walk is exposed for much of its higher section. Strong winds and fast-moving weather roll in from the west, so carry an extra layer even on bright days.
Navigation
Straightforward in clear conditions, but mist can flatten the terrain around Leather Tor. Carry an OS map or GPX and do not rely on a phone signal alone.
Livestock & Wildlife
Ponies, sheep and occasional cattle may be present. Keep dogs under control and give grazing animals space.
Footwear
Sturdy walking boots or grippy trail shoes are recommended for granite, wet grass and uneven moorland tracks.
Variations
You can shorten the walk by returning directly from Sharp Tor if the weather closes in, or extend it by adding a detour toward Peek Hill or the reservoir-side tracks below Leather Tor.
Access & Parking
Good half-day circuit from the Burrator side of Dartmoor. Parking is convenient at Norsworthy Bridge, but it fills quickly on bright weekends. Paths are clear in good weather, though the tor sections are rough and not suitable for pushchairs.
